If you have been playing golf and you sometimes experience your ball going crazy into a big curve and veering into the direction you don’t want it to be, you may be experiencing a golf slice. Indeed, a golf slice can be a disappointing and frustrating problem in the game of golf and fixing a golf slice should be one of your priorities if you want to improve your game and if you want to enjoy getting good scores.
Experts say it is not only the amateurs and the beginners who commit this frustrating slice. Even professionals do, but that fact should not be something that will make you forget about fixing a golf slice. To do better in your game and cure this problem, you have to go back to the basics.
A slice happens when you struck the ball with the clubface open or in an outside to inside swing path which sends the ball veering towards the right of the target. For left-handed players, a slice will send the ball veering towards the left of the target, following a trajectory that is similar to the curves of a banana, where it eventually got its other name – ‘banana ball’.
Indeed, this extreme path of the ball is frustrating and in order to address this problem, you may want to go back to the basics in improving your swing. Fixing a golf slice may involve correcting your stance, your grip, the speed of your swing or the stiffness of your shaft. Understanding the common reasons why you often have that banana ball is important to be able to overcome this problem.
One of the tips used by experts in correcting a golf slice may involve fixing your grip. Sometimes when you have a weak grip, this can lead to the club being open when it hits the ball, thus making the ball to spin and sending it to a slice. If weak grip is causing your slice, experts often advise to turn your grip a bit to the right, making a stronger grip but holding the club with just enough tightness to take control of it. Relaxing your wrists and forearms also helps a lot in perfecting your grip and avoiding that dreaded slice.
Other solutions to fixing a golf slice also include improving your stance, standing straighter with knees slightly bent for proper relaxation and control, and lining up the ball on the heel of the club to correct the outside-inside swing path. It may also involve increasing your swing speed by bringing your club farther back to fix your slice, but do not also go too far with your backswing. If your left arm is not folded when you swing into your follow-through, it may also cause the slice, thus you may also want to check your arms if you are constantly having a slice in your game.
Learning from other players can also help you find tips in straightening your slice. Aside from that, constant practice is very important in fixing a golf slice. Of course, no theories and solutions will take effect in correcting your swing problems if you do not practice them often and put them into test.
